Seven Oaks Child Day Care Centre

Seven Oaks Child Day Care Centre is located on Treaty One Territory.  We acknowledge and honour the traditional lands of the Anishinaabe, Inninew, Anish-Inninew, Dakota, and Dene Nations, as well as the national homeland of the Red River Métis. We recognize our place within the relationships that shape this land. We respect and value the lands teachings and what it continues to give us.  As part of our ongoing unlearning, we commit to reflecting on our role here, and to fostering reconciliation through care, respect, and meaningful action.

Our Philosophy

We believe in inclusive practice that all children deserve to be in an environment that is comfortable and has meaning to them, respecting the abilities of all children.

Our program is nature based and we provide opportunities for children to walk through nature and deeply immerse themselves in their environment.

Community is an important value to the Centre and families are invited to take active roles in contributing to the process of discovery and learning.

Our program is Reggio inspired and that is a process of inviting and sustaining learning through an emergent curriculum by providing a rich environment set up as a third teacher with loose parts to explore and experiences, and relationships build on trust and engagement.

Children have a hundred languages, one hundred thoughts, and one hundred ways of thinking, of playing, and of speaking.

The educator's role is to engage in a relational creativity with a child that both revels in the child's creativity and stimulates the educator's own creativity to find ways to help the child observe, analyze, interpret, and build theories.

As an organization we focus on Pedagogical documentation which is the recording of teaching and learning in an inquiry-based setting where ideas are discussed, investigations is shared and opportunities are created.

How long is the wait for a spot?

The current wait time is approximately 2 to 3 years, and placement is not guaranteed. Spaces become available only when a child leaves the program. Openings are filled based on the age of the child and the available space.

How will I know when a spot becomes available?

You will receive a phone call followed by an email when a spot becomes available, typically two weeks to one month before the start date. At that time, a tour will be scheduled. A $100 reservation fee is required to hold the spot until the start date. Registration forms and program policies will then be provided.

Do I need to bring snacks and lunch for my child?

We are a nut/ egg/ fish aware program. We offer both a snack program and a lunch program for a fee. Families who choose to opt out of the lunch program must ensure that no foods containing nuts, eggs, or fish are brought from home. This includes products made with eggs, such as pasta noodles and baked goods.

Will my child go outside every day?

Yes. As a nature-based program, children go outdoors daily-rain or shine, and throughout the winter months. Learning experiences take place in our outdoor play space using natural elements. Dressing appropriately for all weather conditions and seasons is essential.

What do I need to bring for my child?

Please provide the following items:

  • Extra clothes (pants, shirts, socks, underwear)
  • Reusable cup

Seasonal items:

We also recommend muddy buddies, which allow children the freedom to explore, get wet, and play comfortably in rain and puddles.

Does my child need to be potty trained by a certain age?

No. Children do not need to be potty trained to attend. We believe that children are ready when they are ready, and we support them through this process at their own pace.
